Despite the threat of rain, our Acoustic Tour of the Indian River Lagoon was a sold-out success! (Although we did need to utilize our rain date on Sunday.) Participants had a magical night on the Lagoon with Dr. Grant Gilmore. Nothing makes our Lagoon come alive as much as hearing the sounds of its inhabitants. With Dr. Gilmore's expertise and the aid of a hydrophone everyone not only heard, but understood "who was saying what".
We thank Dr. Gilmore for offering to educate participants on a floating classroom experience. He agreed to do these tours to honor the memory of Lace Vitunac, who loved and worked to protect our Lagoon. As Dr. Gilmore explained, the section of the Indian River Lagoon where the tour took place is the healthiest section of the entire Lagoon. We all hope that these two nights on the lagoon will motivate others to help protect this special place! Check out the our photo slide show from the Sunday night tour, courtesy of Charlie Vitunac. |
