Moonlight Acoustic Tour on the Indian River Lagoon
July 27th & 28th 2018 from 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm

Despite the threat of rain, our Acoustic Tour of the Indian River Lagoon was a sold-out success!  (Although we did need to utilize our rain date on Sunday.)  Participants had a magical night on the Lagoon with Dr. Grant Gilmore. Nothing makes our Lagoon come alive as much as hearing the sounds of its inhabitants. With Dr. Gilmore's expertise and the aid of a hydrophone everyone not only heard, but understood "who was saying what".
We thank Dr. Gilmore for offering to educate participants on a floating classroom experience. He agreed to do these tours to honor the memory of Lace Vitunac, who loved and worked to protect our Lagoon. As Dr. Gilmore explained, the section of the Indian River Lagoon where the tour took place is the healthiest section of the entire Lagoon. We all hope that these two nights on the lagoon will motivate others to help protect this special place!

Check out the our photo slide show from the Sunday night tour, courtesy of Charlie Vitunac.

Sponsored by the Conservation Alliance of St. Lucie County - two evening tours featuring nationally renowned fish scientist and "fish whisperer" Dr. Grant Gilmore, Ph.D.  Dr. Gilmore is considered to be the foremost authority on fisheries in the Indian River Lagoon.

In tribute to Lace Vitunac who fought to protect our Lagoon, this tour will offer participants a rare opportunity to listen to fish songs and mating calls through the use of a hydrophone.  We expect to explore the songs of:  silver perch, spotted sea trout, hardhead catfish, snook and shrimp.

Where:
Captain Chop of the Indian River Lagoon & Swampland Boat Tours will captain his boat for this event.  We will launch from his dock space at 1 Avenue A in Fort Pierce.

Tickets are limited and must be purchased and paid for in advance.

Cost: is $45 for non-members and $35 for paid members of the Conservation Alliance.  In the event that the tour is canceled - refunds will be issued minus the $2 pay-pal processing fee - or they can be transferred to the rain date on July 29th 7:30 pm to 10:00 pm.   (Please arrive by 7:30 so that we can get everyone checked in and ready to leave by 7:45.)   Tickets must be purchased by midnight July 25th.  Direct questions to:  slcconservationalliance@gmail.com.
